Junior Test Race entry

Storm waited at the starting line, the huge black and grey Shedu beneath him standing calmly enough. He could feel dormant tension beneath her shiny fur so he figured she knew they were about to start racing only moments from now. He swallowed nervously.

Usually he wasn’t prone to nervousness, but this was definitely not usually. He’d come to this Junior Test Race only as a spectator, only to have been roped into riding this – admittedly gorgeous – Shedu instead. Of course, he’d volunteered when her rider had turned green and started vomiting… And he was perfectly capable to ride a Shedu; he’d trained two already… But still. Nerves.

The starting signal sounded and off they went!

Despite the fact that Storm knew perfectly well how fast Shedu cats could accelerate, he was still caught by surprise as the lady beneath him fairly flew out of the starting box. For a moment the wind forced the very breath out of his mouth and tears clouded his eyes, but soon he’d gathered himself only to find no-one in front of them! A quick glance to the side revealed that behind Birdy’s tail, the rest were hot on their tail, but for now, nothing but empty sand lay between them and the finish line.

Faster and faster they still went and beside them the other young Shedu cats were slowly gaining.

“Come on, Birdy, don’t let them pass you!” Storm called out to his mount.
